Since 2014, the FT Cares Foundation has held its annual Light the Torch 5K each fall. This 5K run/walk is a unique race through downtown Wheaton just after sunset. In partnership with the Wheaton Park District,

this year's race was held on October 1st.

Pre-race, kids enjoyed face painting, a kid’s slide and other fun activities (all free!). Of course, Torchy and the Fire Princess were on hand to pass out free glow items, take pictures with fans and cheer runners and walkers on! Afterward, kids and adults enjoyed October Fest.

The Foundation is donating its proceeds to organizations that help kids in underserved neighborhoods in Chicago reach their full potential: BUILD and By the Hand Club for Kids, and Special Spaces, which creates one-of-a-kind bedrooms for kids suffering from cancer. Café Liberty, created to give unemployed or underemployed veterans culinary skills training for a career in the food service industry, is also receiving a portion of the Foundation's race proceeds and we thank Dan Gibbons and Café Liberty for its special friendship with the Foundation and FTP and all the hard work they did to help make Light the Torch and October Fest the success they were!
